The symbol of the expo: The Vitruvian Man
The symbol of the Universal Exposition of Milan 2015 is the Vitruvian Man of Leonardo da Vinci. The Vitruvian Man is the symbol that is universally recognized from the Italian culture of the Renaissance that put the man in the centre of every form of thought and saw the fervent development of sciences and arts.
The choice of this figure as the symbol of the Universal Exposition of Milan wants to indicate the ”new Renaissance” that Milan gets ready to relive with the Expo, the unique occasion to show the extraordinary development of the science and the technology in this century.
The Vitruvian Man was drawn by Leonardo da Vinci in 1490 and now it is well-protected at the Laboratory of Drawings and Printings of the Venice Academy Gallery.
