Symbol of the Expo: the Vitruvian Man

The symbol of the World Expo 2015 in Milan is the Vitruvian Man of Leonardo da Vinci. The Vitruvian Man is a universally recognized symbol of Italian culture of the Renaissance, that put the man in the centre of every form of thought and saw the fervent development of sciences and arts.

The choice of this figure as symbol of the World Expo in Milan wants to indicate the "new Renaissance" that Milan gets ready to relive with the Expo, a unique occasion to show the extraordinary development of science and technology in this century.

The Vitruvian Man was drawn by Leonardo da Vinci in 1490 and it is well–protected now at the Laboratory of Drawings and Printings of the Venice Academy Gallery.
